Shame Reader — Privacy Policy

Shame Reader (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a page-reading app published by Shame Logic LLC. This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Introduction

Shame Reader is designed to help you read printed text aloud. You photograph a page (or choose an image from your library); the app sends that image to our servers for optical character recognition (OCR) and text-to-speech, then plays the audio on your device. We do not sell your personal information.

2. Information we collect

• Page images: When you capture or import a photo, the image is compressed on your device and sent to our API for OCR. We process the image to extract text and do not retain the image file after the request completes.
• Extracted text: Text recognized from your image is used to generate spoken audio. It is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech for synthesis. We do not store a library of your pages on our servers.
• App preferences: Settings such as voice choice, reading speed, skip toggles, and roast mode are stored locally on your device (local storage).
• Free-tier usage: The number of pages you have read (for the 10-page free trial) is stored locally on your device.
• Purchase status: Pro unlock purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store and RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of purchase status and an anonymous user identifier — not your payment card or Apple ID password.
• Technical logs: Our servers may log request metadata (such as IP address and timestamps) for security and rate limiting. We do not use this for advertising.

3. How we use your information

• Recognize text from page photos (Google Cloud Vision)
• Synthesize natural speech from that text (Google Cloud Text-to-Speech)
• Enforce the free page limit and Pro unlock through RevenueCat on iOS
• Operate, secure, and improve the app and API

4. Third-party services

• Google Cloud Vision — OCR / document text detection
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — voice synthesis
• RevenueCat — purchase and entitlement status (RevenueCat Privacy)
• Apple App Store — payment processing
• Fly.io — API hosting

We do not use advertising trackers. We do not collect precise GPS location, contacts, or HealthKit data. Camera and photo-library access are used only when you tap to capture or import an image.

5. Data storage and security

Preferences and free-tier counters stay on your device. Page images and text are processed on servers in the United States over HTTPS. Images are not kept after processing. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Children's privacy

Shame Reader is not directed at children under 13. Optional roast mode may include mild humorous commentary. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Your rights

You can revoke camera or photo-library permission in iOS Settings. You can restore purchases from within the app. Local app data can be removed by deleting the app.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
